VVVF drives and electrical protection in mining environments

MESC 2011
08/08/2011

Inadvertent compromise of the protection systems essential to safe provision of electrical energy via an I-T network in hazardous environments was the subject of Ampcontrol's Chief Technology Officer, Tim Wylie's, presentation at the 2011 Mining Electrical Safety Association (MESA) conference in Brisbane.

Pitfalls associated with the application of accepted EMC techniques for VVVF drives in a mining environment were discussed with reference to underground measurement data and observations.
