In August Ampcontrol’s CEO and Managing Director, Geoff Lilliss was announced Professional Engineer of the Year 2012 for Engineers Australia - Newcastle Division.
This award honours an individual whose attributes have demonstrated great achievement and leadership within the engineering profession.
Geoff received this award for his competence and significant achievement in community affairs, his understanding of the role and purpose of the engineering profession within society, proficiency in the use of communication skills in engineering projects and effective communication and promotion within the community of engineers.
Geoff comments on his award, “The importance of this acknowledgement is not so much about the receipt of this award but the recognition from my professional peers. For that I am most humbled."
“This award is also important for Ampcontrol. I am privileged to guide this great company, hopefully to even greater success in the future.”
Throughout his career, Geoff has held a number of senior executive positions within the energy transmission and distribution industry. Actively involved in policy development and management, he has been involved in some of Australia’s largest and most complex projects.
Geoff holds an MBA, Bachelor of Engineering and Conjoint Professorship in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Newcastle, and is a member of the University Council. He is active in Regional Development as a member of Regional Development Australia, Hunter Committee. He is also a Governor Member of the Sydney University Electrical Engineering Foundation and a State Councillor with the Australian Industry Group.
Engineers Australia plays an important role in promoting engineering excellence and the contribution engineering makes to the community. Their award program seeks to identify, recognise and reward outstanding achievement, eminence in the practice of engineering and service to the profession.
Geoff will now contend for the National Professional Engineer of the Year Award, to be awarded in November, 2012.
Ampcontrol is developing VSDguard a high performance microprocessor based earth leakage relay that will be capable of measuring and analysing earth fault currents flowing in power systems.
The VSDguard will be a key tool in understanding, monitoring, protecting and analysing systems using variable speed drives (VSDs).
